Welcome to the Wellesley Public School's 1:1 Initiative Blog

Our goal is to showcase many of the amazing projects that our students and teachers are creating using their iPads in the 5th and 6th (pilot) grade classrooms, as well as to post/re-post articles and other blog posts that pertain to 1:1 technologies in education.

History of 1:1 Initiative:

In the fall of 2011, one 5th grade classroom at one of our seven elementary schools was the recipient of a generous grant from the Wellesley Education Foundation (WEF) and became our first pilot of 1:1 technologies using iPads in their classroom.  A few months later, thanks to an anonymous donation two more 5th grade classrooms at that same school joined the 1:1 initiative.  By spring of 2013, every 5th grade teacher, specialist (art, library, music and PE), special educator and curriculum specialist who works with 5th grade received their own devices and district-wide training for 5th grade teachers began (also funded by WEF).  In the fall of 2013, through a collaboration between the school district, school Parent-Teacher Organizations and WEF, every 5th grader and one house (approximately 75 students) in 6th grade received their iPads as part of the 1:1 initiative.  Today, we hope to expand our program to include all 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders in the near future.
